Hockey DefenseMan… er… Moose

RedwingMoose2

Last season, I was a teammate of a Detroit Redwing loving, hockey playing, defense moose. …no, seriously, I really was …honest.

Even More Kids For The Blog

KidsGirlBoy

The kids I draw have either been eating a lot of chocolate or hanging out at the coffee shop… one way or the other, heavily caffeinated.

More Kids For The Blog

4Kids

As an illustrator, my job is to create illustrations that fit in and around type. Over the years, I’ve been given some pretty odd shapes to fill with a picture. I did these four kids a while back and apparently they are each supposed to fit inside a square.

This Blog Is Sadly Kidless

SurprizedGirl

I just noticed that I have no pictures of kids on my blog. I’m going to quickly throw this image up and now I’m going to dig through my picture morgue for a bunch more…

Critical Mass

FlyingMonkeys

Time to release the flying monkeys…

Edward Firefox

1Archer

As Edward Firefox contemplated his next shot he came to a startling realization… time flies like an arrow and fruit flies like an apple.

The Man From Uncle

UNCLEgrace

When I was a kid, my little brother Donald and I saved the world many a time pretending to be Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin from the old tv show THE MAN FROM UNCLE… so it was a trip down memory lane recently when I illustrated a Phil Callaway article and got to do this take on that old MAN FROM UNCLE logo.

Tiger Bait

DeathValleyDealer2

I’m pretty sure this is what an L.S.U. fan is thinking when they yell TIGER BAIT!

The Death Valley Dealer

DeathValleyDealer

Frank Frazetta created a legendary image several years ago called The Death Dealer. As I was designing new board game images, I drew this picture in homage to that iconic piece of artwork… and in homage to my L.S.U. loving daughter-in-law, I named this fellow The Death VALLEY Dealer. He sits atop his intimidating warrior battle hog, ready for action. I fear this image will not sit well with my Arkansas Razorback loving kinfolk…

A.J.’s Fish

GoldFish

My buddy A.J. showed me a picture of a fish that he caught and it looked an awful lot like this one…

Jousting Peeps

RhinoJousters

Some felt that Sir Rocky Raccoon of Black Mountain Hill took unfair advantage of the rather loose jousting rules at the tournament…

Turtle Tank

TurtleTank

General Moture’s surprise attack from the woods was truly a stroke of genius. Unfortunately, riding a turtle for the surprise attack was not a great idea.

Oxymoron

OxRider

Here we have a floppy eared… uhm… dog?… kind of a guy riding some sort of… uhm… ox looking creature. That dog is not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer (if you know what I mean) …he truly is an oxymoron.

Building A Better Hedge Knight: Part 4

HKnight1

My stop-motion hedge knight, Sir Duncan The Tall, is now pretty much complete. His head and mouth can move as well as his legs, arms and fingers.

He still needs a few props, so I build him a sword out of Sculpey and a shield out of balsa wood.

HKnight2

I also make him a massive pair of shoulder pads just in case the Kansas City Chiefs decide to take him with their first pick in this years NFL Draft.

HKnight3

Ok, this guy is pretty much ready to make his big screen, stop-motion film debut.

Building A Better Hedge Knight: Part 3

HKhand1

Yesterday I got the feet made to my stop-motion puppet, today I tackle the hands. The first thing I do is sketch out a hand that is roughly the right size on a piece of paper. Using a light gage aluminum wire I build the framework of each hand.

HKhand2

I hot glue a piece of cardboard to the palm of each hand so they will retain their shape. I then add a thin layer of hot glue to all the aluminum wire in order to add strength to it.

HKhand3

Finally, I sew on some fine leather gloves with elegant fur trim. I add some Sculpey painted armor to the top of the hands and they are finished.

HKhand4

Tomorrow… the next step towards finish.
