eclectic artwork & other random things

Several years ago I took a stop motion class at a local University and since that time about once a year I get the bug to create a fully articulated stop motion puppet. This year I made Kansas City Chiefs legend linebacker/center E. J. Holubaloo.

E. J. likes to hang out in my studio and keep an eye on things while I’m gone.

That’s incredibly cool! Have you made an animated test with him?? β‘οΈ If you’ve made any stop-motion tests over the years with your ‘puppets’, I’m sure we’d all love to see them here!! π
Hi Dave! I’ve never had enough spare time to put any of my puppets thru the paces for stop motion π
SPECTACULAR ! ! ! ! !ΓΒ thanx for posting this!!!!!
nice job n hte JOKES section in Clubhouse!
Ya gotta be an old time Chiefs fan to fully get this one π
that i am—yet—i do NOT get the reference—i admit in shame——— i became a Chiefs fan in 1972 when Otis jumped over e defender to score a TD
WAAYYY back in the day (Dallas Texan days) E. J. Holub was a star linebacker for our team but his knees gave out… so he switched to playing center on offense… so my E. J. Holubaloo is a tribute to him π
dooood!ΓΒ that’s some serious Chiefs fan STUFF. ! ! ! so you know—-i tell this to artists all the time—when we talk about influences in our artisticΓΒ minds YOU—-are in my top 5—-always have——— you’ve kept the TRUTH about what makes a character move and feel and visually speak better than me for sure, and better than almost anybody. You’ve always ”told the story in 2 seconds”.
My litmus test for a QB—-can he throw a 17 yard OUTΓΒ on a rope–on time— in a place that a receiver can catch it without winning ESPY for the ability to make the incredible grab. Can a receiver consistently run a pass route, vs every coverage, and be OPEN every play ( that he wants to be open—sometimes you are just teachin’ the d’backΓΒ to THINK this fake means THAT route — setting them up for the real route later — you know–you play hockey ) and then can that receiver RECEIVE!!? reliably!? ( we currently have the best since Otis Taylor in Dhop……. finally )
ΓΒ we get 2 seconds from our viewers to sell the story on them – and hopefully an emotion on top of the story—-2 seconds—-and YOU get it from them…………………………………………people look at me funny when iΓΒ put your name in with the Jack DavisΓΒ mort drucker conversation…..just thought i’d tell you that—-lest i die of a heart attack again someday.
hahahhaaaaaa thanx for staying consistent! and for being great! brilliant!
btw—in 2010—i totally stole this for the FireBible for Kids job—– it’s a perfect image

Back when I first started as an illustrator, I was a grinder… get the job, do the job, get the money, do the next jobβ¦ it was just a continuous grind. I was not enjoying it too much. At one point I called my brother in law who was a plumber and asked if I could apprentice with him. He told me I probably should stay in art π But when I met you and saw your art, it looked like you were actually having fun doing itβ¦ that was a totally alien concept for meβ¦ have fun? doing art?
So whether you know it or not, you helped me to just slow down, appreciate each job I had, do the best I could with it and just have fun doing artworkβ¦ no matter how terrible the budget always was π
How is your health, by the way?
i’m fat and outta shape—————- but fine other than that———-i have some short term memory issues andΓΒ sequencing numbers andΓΒ stuff—but——— as if nothing happened mostly.
your message there is shocking to me………………………………………………….. you would come in andΓΒ show your wares to the art department–and i was ENTHRALLED and inspired—–you canΓΒ MAKE IT on the outside ! ! !ΓΒ WOW! so i soaked in the illustration annuals that we had in the book cabinet————– so much so———– if someone was wanting to look at am image from an artist—they’d come to meΓΒ and i could tell them what annual–how deep in the annual and which part of which page the illo could be found….hahahahhahaaaa…i got many talks from the bosses about my time in the books vs WORKING on some of the most mind numbing projects ever thought of……………………………………………………………….good times tho–good —really good people in that dungeon…..there was a golden era there–and i got to be part of it.
