A few weeks ago, I ran across a replay of the Cowboys And Aliens movie on TV. (Spoiler Alert: the movie contains cowboys, indians and ALIENS). In the opening scene, a really interesting looking cowboy with a stove pipe hat rides into the story. Thinking he was a really unique character, I quickly sketched him and later that weekend I scratched some color onto my drawing.
I am the proud owner of an old wooden chair that belonged to my Grandma and Grandpa Grantham. It came from the corner of their old smoke house where it sat dilapidated, covered in dirt, boxes and mud-dobber nests. I, of course, loved it the moment I saw it. It’s seat cover was a ratty, red leather looking canvas material.
A few years ago, I ripped off that old red seat cover and refurbished the chair but I kept the seat cover hoping someday to find a use for it. Well, this weekend I found a use for it. It became the new covering for the pick guard and tuning head on this guitar I made.
It’s March of 2014, so I guess it’s time to get my 2013 Sketchbook posted. This one doesn’t have the same production values as my other sketchbook videos… mainly because I shot it this afternoon with a phone in one hand and turning pages with the other… and I kinda ran out of pages so I just started throwing stuff on top of the sketchbook… and I only did one take… but I did spend a whopping 5 minutes shooting it and another half an hour trying to figure out how the new iMovie interface works, so it’s got all that going for it. I hope you enjoy this little movie and appreciate all the minutes and minutes of thought and hard work that went into the making of this possible academy award winning film.
For everyone that had me one n done in their office pools… you lose! I just posted picture number TWO.
As many of you know, I am attempting to illustrate the entire Biblical Book Of Luke… IN MY SPARE TIME. I started at chapter one verse one and am working my way to the end of the book. I will post one new image each Monday with the text that goes with it. I will continue to post the Luke pictures both here AND on the Luke page, but eventually only The Gospel Of Luke page will have these pictures… so…
…if you would like to follow along, click over to The Gospel Of Luke website, look down the right column and click the FOLLOW button. You will receive my little epistles each week in your very own email box. To go to The Gospel Of Luke web page CLICK HERE.
I’m starting a new online project which is surely doomed to fail. I’m going to attempt to illustrate the entire Biblical Book Of Luke… IN MY SPARE TIME. I will start at chapter one verse one and work my way to the end of the book. I will post one new image each week with the text that goes with it. We can all read the Book Of Luke together… or we can all watch Dennis experience a colossal epic fail around Chapter Three… either way, it’s a WIN, WIN!
If you would like to follow my weekly progress and see how long I can keep this thing going, click over to The Gospel Of Luke website, look down the right column and click the FOLLOW button. You will receive my little epistles each week in your very own email box. To go to The Gospel Of Luke web page CLICK HERE.
I have a Facebook friend from Russia who makes great little dimensional creatures. Here is one she created that is modeled after my old crazy cat picture. Do yourself a favor, visit her page and enjoy her work for a while.

When I was a kid, I really enjoyed watching Hogan’s Heroes on TV, so it was pretty exciting when this job rolled across my desk. The magazine article is built around the old television show and the editor originally just wanted me to draw the author (dressed as Hogan) climbing over a fence… but there was no way I was ONLY going to do that. I suggested adding Sergeant Shultz and Colonel Klink, they agreed and this is what I came up with.
I have a Work In Progress on my Behance Portfolio site if you would like to see this picture created from start to finish. To see it CLICK HERE.
There’s a new BROTHERJONESBIGTALKIN’ Bible Story Book available in iTunes!!
You can take a look at it HERE.
A few years ago, my youngest son spent a summer at home and convinced me we should be golfing every Saturday. I’m not a golfer and I don’t have clubs, so he scrounged around and put a set together for me to play with. Most of my golf bag was filled with ladies clubs, (blades at that) but I didn’t know the difference. My golfing attire? A t-shirt, shorts and black Converse high top, Chuck Taylor tennis shoes.
One busy Saturday we were waiting for our turn to tee off and a little girl on a bicycle peddled up, stopped in front of me, looked me up and down and said, “Are you a golfer?” I said, “Yes, I’m a golfer,” and after an awkward pause I said, “don’t I look like a golfer?” She looked me up and down one more time and said, “Nope.” I laughed nervously, stepped up to my ball and shanked a tremendous shot out onto the highway next to the fairway.
I thought I had my bluff in and was blending right into the whole golf scene, but apparently I couldn’t even fool a little girl on a bike.
